Luke 10-11

Luke 10:25-37 - The Parable of the Good Samaritan
(see the teaching: "Love One Another", for a more complete study of this passage. Available in Church Resource Center)
This story of the "Good Samaritan" is Jesus' picture illustration of what it means to "love your neighbor as yourself." Important for us to understand that this is not our way to life but it is our way to live. Let me explain. Faith in Jesus Christ and His life, death and resurrection is our only way to life (John 14:6). Loving your neighbor as yourself is the way Jesus instructs all of us to live. Loving your neighbor does not earn salvation. But it is a huge part of the fruit that proves we are saved. Jesus ends the story with, "Go and do likewise." This is a pretty tall order. How can we live like this?

All I can say is, when it's hard to love that neighbor as yourself, and you pray and pray to have God's eyes and see the neighbor as He does, and you trust God in showing you, something supernatural happens and a huge flood of compassion and love flows over you and all of a suddent, you are loving your neighbor as yourself. I sure can't do it on my own. It's amazing! It's hard to explain, you just have to do it!

Thanks xenos express for your comments. Pryaing for your neighbor is certainly a great way to start. But esp. praying to see them as God sees them. No doubt this kind of love is supernatural. It's God flowing thru us.

God showed me something the other day about loving ourselves, and it extends to the love that we are to have for others.

I often tend to see that God created me, and then all of these faults rose up and God had to deal with them. That I have thrown a wrench into His plans.

But He choose to create me, knowing what all my faults and sins would be. And I have to accept that I am still fearfully and wonderfully made in His eyes, even with my faults.

And that changes the way I see the others around me. They are just as beautiful an image as the Creator as I have to believe I am, sin issues and all. And to love our neighbor as ourself means we have to accept who we are in Christ, and beat our flesh into submission. But realize that God is not overwhelmed by anyone's particular struggle with sin. He is still God and in control of their life.

All of your comments were so good. If all of us would try to see others as God does, we would be much more compassionate towards one another and be more Christ like. If we could all just remember that Jesus gave us a new commandment, to love one another just as he loved us; in fact, he says we MUST do this. If we do nothing else but follow this commandment, what a different world we would be living in!

We can live like this by preferring one another. I have learned a lot the past few months going through some trials and purging... I have learned that we need to submit ourselves to one another especially when we don't understand. Sometimes just standing and doing all you know to do is the best thing to do. Submitting is sometimes difficult for me, because it involves a certain amount of trust, but when you learn to trust the One who created you , HE takes care of the rest and helps you be submissive.
